The Meadow

The meadow resplendent in summertime,

flowers blossom colours of the rainbow.

The busy bee humming a merry song,

gathering his harvest fit for a queen.

Butterflies float like kites on the breeze,

invisible string guiding them from flower to flower.

Birdsong fills the air,

long-grass sways as if dancing in delight.

A ladybird in a red dress with black buttons,

walks along the stem of a honeysuckle,

looking innocent but searching for her prey.

A sudden gust of wind,

and dandelion seeds fill the air

as if snow is falling in our summer meadow.

A frogs rich tenor voice croaks rhythmically,

conspicuous in the undergrowth.

Two lovers stroll hand in hand,

her cheeks flushed, his eyes transfixed.

He picks her up and spins her around,

life is bliss in natures garden.

Villanelle Poem

Today I am posting a Villanell Poem. Hope you like it.

Born free?

Can this kangaroo court judge me?
With their smirking, snarling, sneering
Is not a man born free?

No crime committed, can’t they see?
Will a witness be appearing?
Can this kangaroo court judge me?
No jury here to hear my plea

They’re the judge and jury I am fearing
Is not a man born free?
What law was broken, by what decree,
Is this hostile crowd jeering?

Can this kangaroo court judge me?
No mercy shown, so let it be
Hang him! They are cheering
Is not a man born free?

Led to the gallows, the hanging tree
My fate with God is nearing
Can this kangaroo court judge me?
Is not a man born free?

Sensational Sitou

Continuing my theme of sites in Taiwan, I am going to let you into a well-kept secret. Sitou! I kid you not, Sitou is one of the finest National Parks I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Situated in Nantou county, away from the hum drum of everyday life, Sitou is a sanctuary, a place of peace and being one with nature.

There are many species of trees to marvel at. With hiking paths winding through the park allowing you to stroll at your own pace, taking in the wonderful scenery, breathing the clean fresh air, and allowing you body to recharge its batteries.

The area is situated at an altitude of 1,150 metres. There are some lovely scenic views of Taiwan’s mountains. Popular with Taiwanese tourists, it’s not so often foreign travellers visit this area. So please, if you visit Taiwan, please, please, make a date with Sitou. You will thank me for letting you know about this hidden gem.

Shilin Night Market

Hello again. I thought I would write a little about my experiences in Taiwan. Today I will concentrate on one of my favourite place in Taipei..Shilin Night Market. It’s just an amazing place to visit. The hustle and bustle of the people milling around the area, the vast variety of market stalls and the smell of the food make it a must place to go.

Here is a video from YouTube. I didn’t film this. I linked it because it gives you a good idea and feel for Shilin Night Market.

It is easily accessible by public transport. Just hop aboard the MRT and head to Jiantan Station. Once there take in the sights and sounds, sample and enjoy food sold by the many vendors. It’s a great way to spend and evening, or just to visit after you have been to the cinema or theatres near by.

So, if you find yourself in Taipei, and feel like you want to be entertained, head out to Shilin, you won’t regret it.

Day Dreaming

Well, there I was, sat in the garden, enjoying the sunshine, when suddenly I found myself looking into the distance, not focusing on anything in particular. My mind was wandering, pictures formed from out of nowhere. Yes, I’m a day dreamer. Always have been. All the things I have never done in reality I have done with relish in these moments of distraction.

I wouldn’t mind but I’ve lived quite an adventurous life so far. I’ve been to quite a few countries, met some very interesting people…and a few not so interesting, if truth be told! Yet for some reason my inner being craves for more. Perhaps I should keep a record of these day dreams. Maybe there is a story to be told, a story so fantastic that it will be an instant best seller and I would appear on talk shows all over the world…..

…….Ooopsss, sorry about that, it seems I was distracted for a moment!

Royal Birkdale

Hello! I would like to tell you a little about Royal Birkdale, a world famous championship golf course near Southport. Although I have never had the privilege to play this great course, I have, over the years, watched a few enthralling Opens there. Not least the amazing championship of 2008 when Padraig Harrinton was victorious. More recently 2010 when the ladies had their Open there, won by the wonderfully gifted Yani Tseng.

Birkdale is an amazing course, a true challenge to even the greatest of golfers. At 6,817 yards, this par 72 has everything. Wide fairways, deep pot bunkers, a brook running through the course, not to forget the Lancashire weather! Not for the feint hearted!

The Club House, Birkdale.

I hope one day to play this course. In saying that, I have a current handicap of 14 so feel my game is a little inadequate to cope with the demands of this beautiful course. Should any of you keen golfers find yourself near to Southport, be sure to give Royal Birkdale a visit.

It’s All New To Me

Well, here we go…………

This may sound obvious to you, because this is my first attempt at a blog, but like it says in the header, It’s All New To Me! I hope to write some interesting content so that any passer by may pause for a while and read what I write. Time will tell!

I have lived inTaiwan in the past and thought perhaps I could write a little about my experiences there. Alongside my travels around Europe. Although, that said, I don’t intend to write a travel blog. More of a general blog with mixed content.

Wish me luck!
